Memento – to remember, recall. Souvenirs remind us of a given time and place, become treasured objects, embody a personal experience.

Memento, a new exhibition of Joanna Kessel’s recent research into traditional filato micro-mosaic techniques, will run from 24 February to 2 March 2023, at mote in Edinburgh.

The exhibition includes new, explorative, wall mounted pieces, drawings and a small selection of previous work. It is arranged to demonstrate the shift in scale from architectural mosaic artworks to miniature hand-held pieces – macro to micro – and her shift in focus from urban to natural environments. Joanna will be at mote every afternoon.

Joanna’s research was supported by the Inches Carr Creative Development Award 2022 and administered by Visual Arts Scotland.
